Two patients in Thailand and another in Japan have been diagnosed with the virus.

The Union Ministry of Health has issued a travel advisory for those travelling to China in view of a Coronavirus outbreak in that country.

There are thermal scanners at ports and airports in Indonesia to monitor travellers fevers amid fears the virus could spread.

The Foreign Office said it had updated its travel advice for the Wuhan region, but guidance on visiting China remains unchanged.

"This is the first domestic discovery of a pneumonia case related to the brand new coronavirus", Japan's health ministry said a statement.

A second person died in China from a mysterious new pneumonia, Chinese health officials said.

Jeremy Farrar, an expert on emerging diseases, said: "We are starting to hear of more cases in China and other countries, and it is likely that there will be many more". However, the Wuhan Municipal Health Commission said earlier this week that limited human-to-human transmission can not be ruled out, as it revealed one case where a woman may have contracted the virus from her husband.

"The earlier we detect a case, the better we can protect the public, and the more we can understand about this virus and its risk for spread", he said.

The Wuhan commission referred queries on the report to China's National Health Commissi5on and the Hubei provincial government. Around 44 suspected cases were reported in the month of December.

His death follows that of a 61-year-old man in the same city on January 9, who died after respiratory failure caused by severe pneumonia.

In the last week, Thailand has confirmed two cases of the virus while Japan has confirmed a single case.

In a media statement yesterday, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said that the 69-year-old male Singaporean has been admitted for further assessment and treatment. "It is probable that we are looking at patients being affected over a number of days from multiple animal sources and with some degree of human-to-human transmission", said Farrar. However, so far there is little evidence of significant human-to-human transmission. There they will answer more questions and will be tested for the new virus as well as other illnesses, such as the flu, that may be causing their illness.
