Perhaps hoping for a miracle, Stone was also clutching a bible in his left hand.

The jury of nine women and three men found Mr.

Stone, is shown with a placard of Donald Trump, speaking about his book The Making of the President 2016 in Boca Raton, Fla., on March 21, 2017.

He lied about his conversations with senior Trump Campaign officials and lied to lawmakers when he said he had no emails or written communications about WikiLeaks that could prove useful to their probe.

He said Stone bragged of his relationship with WikiLeaks and its founder, Julian Assange.

Reacting to the conviction, President Trump wrote in a statement: "So they now convict Roger Stone of lying and want to jail him for many years to come".

After the judge set Stone's sentencing date, prosecutor Jonathan Kravis asked the judge to detain Stone pending sentencing, saying that the night before Alex Jones from the conspiracy theory website Infowars claimed Stone had sent him a message.

Such subterfuge, the DOJ alleged, prompted congressional investigators to issue an incomplete and inaccurate report about Russian interference in the 2016 USA presidential election.

He told Congress his intermediary with WikiLeaks was NY radio host and comedian Randy Credico, who interviewed Assange in 2016.

According to a Fox News report on the verdict, Stone's defense argued that Trump's campaign did nothing wrong and thus that there was nothing to hide.
