Tokyo 2020: Roger Federer says his 'heart decided' to play Olympic Games

"I am very popular in my country and I know people would love to see me at the Olympics and go for a medal".

The 20-time grand slam champion announced his decision to compete again after an exhibition match against John Isner staged in the host city for next year's Games.

"At the end of the day my heart decided I would love to play the Olympic Games again", Federer told reporters during a promotional event for his sponsor Uniqlo in Tokyo.

Former Gamecock picked on first day of XFL Draft
Artis-Payne was a fifth-round pick (No. 174 overall) of the Panthers in 2015 and spent four seasons in Carolina. The XFL has divided the draft by position due to the overwhelming number of players available.

The Swiss already won the gold medal in doubles, along with his compatriot Stan Wawrinka in Beijing 2008 and the silver medal in singles in 2012, in London, when he gave in to the British Andy Murray in the All England Club in the last match of the tournament.

Federer has won all four of the Grand Slam tournaments, as well as the ATP Tour Finals six times, but is still waiting to grab Olympic singles gold.

Instead, the 38-year-old claims his participation is down to the prestige of the competition. "I just felt like this, for me, is something I would like to do if I am healthy". At Athens 2004, he lost in the second round and at Bejing 2008, he lost in the quarterfinals.
